W-film bringt seit 2000 künstlerisch wertvolle Independent-Filme abseits vom Mainstream ins Kino. Inzwischen gehören rund 200 Kurzfilme, 65 Dokumentarfilme und 30 Spielfilme zum vielfältigen Repertoire des Filmverleihs. Das Augenmerk liegt insbesondere auf der Vermittlung gesellschaftlich relevanter Themen, die auf authentische Weise den kulturellen Austausch fördern und gerne auch mal schwierige Debatten anreizen. Ein Schwerpunkt des Programms bilden Umwelt-Dokus, die für Nachhaltigkeit sensibilisieren und über die Gefahren des Klimawandels aufklären. Darüber hinaus werden aber auch nationale und internationale Produktionen von gestandenen Filmemacher*innen bis hin zu Debütant*innen verliehen. 2019 erhielt W-film den BKM-Verleiherpreis für besondere Leistungen bei der Verbreitung künstlerisch herausragender Filme.
