capelight pictures wurde 2004 von Stephan Selms und Steffen Gerlach als Home Entertainment Anbieter gegründet und brachte 2006 „Als das Meer verschwand“ als ersten Film in die deutschen Kinos. In den folgenden Jahren etablierte sich capelight mit Filmen wie Anton Corbijns „Control“, der Satire „Four Lions“ und dem episch-opulenten „The Fall“ von Tarsem Singh. Im Co-Verleih mit Koch Films veröffentlichte capelight 2019 den Oscar®-Sensationserfolg „Parasite“. Auch die fesselnde Oscar®-prämierte Dokumentation „Free Solo“ beeindruckte das deutsche Kinopublikum nachhaltig.
Ein Fokus von capelight pictures ist das internationale Genre-Kino. Vomaustralischen Breakout-Horror-Hit „Talk to Me“ oder Luc Bessons imposanten „DogMan“ zu internationalen Top-Titeln wie „The Sadness“ oder „The Innocents“: Dieses Genre ist fest im capelight-Programm verankert.
